ThePrecision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation(PMAEF), in partnership with 15 districts of thePrecision Metalforming Association(PMA), is now accepting applications from high school students and others seeking scholarships to train for careers in manufacturing. The deadline toapplyfor PMAEF’s fall scholarships of $1,000 or more is October 2, 2023.
Launched in 2020, the PMAEF scholarship program aims to strengthen local talent pipelines by awarding scholarships to individuals pursuing careers in the metalforming industry.
“The PMAEF scholarship program is directly addressing the top challenge most often cited by PMA members: finding people for open positions,” said PMA President David Klotz. “The manufacturing sector offers great careers; however, we are still facing a challenge to attract, train and advance the next generation of American workers. We had a record number of applicants for the PMAEF spring scholarship program, so we know that the interest in these jobs is there, and PMA is pleased that this program is helping to connect our members with the workforce of tomorrow.”
Applicants must be a high school senior and/or formally enrolled in a post-secondary metalforming/manufacturing/technology/engineering program; trades job training/apprenticeship; or a machining, CNC, tool & die, welding or stamping certificate program at an accredited institution with 20 or more contact hours.
The 15 PMA districts participating in the PMAEF scholarship program include: California, Chicago, Cleveland, East Michigan, Lone Star, Indiana, Mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, New England, Southeast, Southern New England, Tennessee, Twin Cities, West Michigan and Wisconsin districts.
During the spring 2023 scholarship campaign, PMAEF and PMA districts provided $23,000 in scholarships to20 talented individualsin seven PMA districts, bringing the total awarded to $80,000 since the program’s inception three years ago.
“We are thrilled with our districts’ strong support of the PMAEF scholarship program,” said Randy Kish, PMA member engagement manager. “PMA districts are leading the way in helping to educate the next generation of metalformers, and we look forward to expanding participation in the program and awarding even more aspiring industry professionals with scholarships this fall.”
